As part of our mission to showcase science so that more people find, understand and use it, we're using the latest in generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology. This allows us to automatically provide easy-to-read Story pages for many articles that haven't yet been explained on Kudos by their authors.
We use a proprietary AI system that has been designed specifically for the task of summarizing and explaining academic publications. Stories with content created using AI are clearly marked.
No AI system is perfect, so it's important to remember that Stories with content created using AI may contain mistakes. We take steps to minimize these, but you should double-check information on Kudos with other sources.
Our blog has an in-depth look at our approach to AI.
Don't worry if you've already created a Story page for your research on Kudos – we won't replace your content!
If you'd like to edit or add to the content we have for one of your articles, just follow the steps on the Story page to claim it. You can then make any changes to the content you like. A great way to get started for a Story with an AI 'What's it about?' and 'Why's it important?' is to choose a featured image from our library, and write a quick personal perspective.
If you're happy with the AI content, you don't have to change it! But you can also edit, remove, or replace the AI content on any of your Story pages at any time.
AI systems are created using example data to teach the system what the desired result looks like in a process called 'training'. We don't use your content to train our AI. Our AI was trained on a selection of academic articles with explicit permission granted by the authors, and the process was verified and overseen by human editors.
